Another call for writers, and some news bits

I obviously really stink at keeping this blog updated. Like Whoa stink at it. Do you want to be a contributor? Write to me. You don't have to live in TH, just be able to tell me why you have an interest in the area.

Check out Lee's Grocery, newly opened in the hood with tasty pizzas and beers.

Not in TH, but nearby, Microgroove Records is adding a music presence on the already up and coming stretch of Florida Ave. just south of Hillsborough.

And if you're looking for something awesome to do next weekend for a good cause, come check out Jobsite Rocks VIII: Babes in Toyland at New World Brewery on "our" end of Ybor. $8 donation for 3 great bands: 8 Kinds of Thunder, Poetry 'n Lotion and the Vodkanauts. A ton of raffle prizes will be handed out all night from local businesses with tickets starting at just $2. PLUS - bring in a new, unwrapped toy and get a beer on the house courtesy of NW!

Got neighborhood news? Send it to me! Want to contribute to the blog? Let me know!

Special offer on a show tonight!

I run Jobsite Theater down at the Straz Center, and we have a special offer on tickets for tonight's performance of Dead Man's Cell Phone. The show is getting great reviews:

We begin our second weekend of performances of the hit play Dead Man's Cell Phone tonight (6/10, 8p) in the Shimberg Playhouse. We hope that if you haven't joined us yet that you can attend this weekend, and that if you have come that you can recommend us to friends!

The six-person cast is getting sensational feedback from audiences and critics alike:

" an innovative play ... tender yet exasperated ... the cast [is] hugely talented, subtle and charming ..." - The Tampa Tribune

"A fine production ... original, unpredictable, poignantly lyrical ... expect humor, whimsical plot developments, sudden insights and an all-too-justifiable fixation on death. There are several coups-de-theâtre ... the Jobsite team delivers fully with every performance" - Creative Loafing

"The six-person cast, directed by David M. Jenkins, is phenomenal, delivering some of the most uniformly excellent acting you're likely to see on a Tampa stage this year." - St. Pete Times

There is a special discount code for tonight's show (6/10, 8p) - use promo code JEAN when you buy and get your tickets for half-off, just $12.25 each.

Hope you can take advantage!
