Urban Improvement?
Well, I was hoping for better news, but I finally found out what's replacing the Blue Ribbon Supermarket in our adjacent southern neighborhood, Tampa Heights, at the sw corner of Columbus and Tampa St. I'm told through reliable resources that it's going to be a Family Dollar.

I guess the good news is it's no worse than what it is now (i.e., unkept vacant building).

I can't say I'm stoked about it, but at least it won't be an empty building and lot. I know Publix or Sweetbay were out, but maybe I was holding out for a indie grocer or at least a farmer's market or something.

You know it's getting close to summer in the Heights ...

For the first time this year I noticed a truck full of watermelons pulled up in one of the lots on Florida and Columbus. For those of you not in the know roadside fruit is always pennies on the dollar of what you can get in the store. Try them out.

Summer's getting closer ...

Wow, I have a lot of stuff I wanted to do to my yard before having that first BBQ. I better quit blogging and get to work ...

Neighborhood map

Thanks to the Seminole Heights blog for providing this map link. It shows all the neighborhoods for the majority of Tampa.

Finally, I have a clear picture of Old, South and Southeast Seminole Heights and how it relates to Tampa Heights. VM Ybor and Ybor Heights, too.

In other news, it looks like the old Blue Ribbon grocery on Columbus and Tampa is being cleaned out. There's a long dumpster out there full of furniture and fixtures. Has anyone heard of any plans for that space?
