Open thread: What does Tampa Heights need?

Let loose, folks. How long til they turn that area between Florida and Tampa on Columbus into a decent shopping district? What about streetcar access? Need more of that? Less of Mr. Simmons asking if he can rake your yard til that check comes in? Less shed break-ins?

Speak up!

  1. Hopefully the River Walk goes through and we will get shops and some cafes. We would like to get Mr. Simmons and his rake to knock down the burned out structure at 3207 N. Highland. We definately need more shops and good places to eat.

  2. Ahhh ... good old Mr. Simmons.

I haven't seen him in quite a long time. I think he avoids my house now that it's been almost a year since he promised to do my yard after my wife gave him some money in a (not advised) act of kindness last Thanksgiving ...

The sooner they get to work on that Columbus stretch between Florida and Tampa the better!!!

It is something no other neighborhood in Tampa has. And it is very cool

  4. Bike lanes to downtown would be REALLY nice. We live in south seminole heights and bike to Ybor and downtown quite often. If Tampa or Florida had a bike lane, our ride would be much safer and easier!

  5. Hi Michelle,

Ryan with the THCA says that a bike lane is in the plan for Tampa St. from MLK into Downtown. That's good news, but I'd still prefer to make Tampa a two lane, two way street with greenspace between!

  6. The way this area is growing, Tampa needs more defined areas of commerce, restaurants, retail, etc. Tampa Heights, being the historical area that it is and with it's great location is such a prime area for re-development and investment. As the demographic changes, the commerce will follow. Tampa Heights just needs time. It is certainly headed in the right direction.
